Dear friends we invite you to contribute artwork to be auctioned to benefit hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
We encourage artists and emerging artists to donate works of art for the silent auction. The silent auction, will open on December 1, 2017. Please submit information about your work: dimensions, suggested value, matted or framed. Contributors are asked to ship items to the highest bidder.
The silent auction work will directly support communities in Mayagüez, Rio Piedras, and Loiza. These communities are still going through the emergency stage and are in need of basic necessities. Sharon Cronin, Antonio González-Walker, and the UGP Solidarity Network are working directly with these communities.
There are also former and current Goddard College students who are working directly in Puerto Rico or from the US supporting this effort, Sasha Mercado Calderón, Pedro Adorno Irizarry, Ronald Rosario Enríquez, and Christian Galarza. In Mayagüez, the focus of support will be with seniors and public housing communities. In Rio Piedras, in addition to addressing basic needs, relief volunteers are bringing art into the community for healing and strength. In Loíza, it will support the establishment of a Center for Climate Justice in the community of Parcela Suárez which is ground zero for climate change issues in the north-east section of the island and one of the most important cultural centers of afro-puerto rican heritage.
